NDHP to re-open in July after two-year hiatus
February 16, 2012

At the North Dakota Racing Commission meeting today, commissioners approved live race dates for North Dakota's two racetracks—Chippewa Downs in Belcourt and North Dakota Horse Park in Fargo.
Chippewa Downs was granted eight days: June 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and July 1. North Dakota Horse Park received two guaranteed days—July 14 and 15—and two conditional days—July 21 and 22.
"We had lots of cooperation among the tracks, the horsemen, and the commissioners," said Winston Satran, director of the Racing Commission. "Everybody came with good ideas. It was all very productive and I believe we have come to the right solution."
For the North Dakota Horse Park, the live race dates in July will be the first since September of 2009.
"When the Horse Park re-opens, the state legislators will see that we're moving forward," Satran continued. "That's a good thing."
The Commission and NDHP officials plan to reconvene in early April to discuss the conditional dates.
